With the help of Baloo, the bear, and Bagheera, the panther, Mowgli learns about respect, responsibility and resourcefulness—and confronts the man-eating tiger, Shere Khan. Summer camp at ARIEL is much more than memorizing a script and singing songs. It’s about learning to be accountable, respectful, and how to work with others to create something amazing for the entire community. ARIEL’s finest productions are not the plays but the development of responsible young people who come together in a positive, collaborative spirit to learn, perform and share experiences that they will carry with them for a lifetime.
Have you ever wondered what it takes to put on a musical? Join ARIEL Theatrical for a one week musical theatre camp and find out. Sounds of work crews are music to the ears of ARIEL Theatrical founder and artistic director Gail Higginbotham. The Karen Wilson Children’s Theater has been in a constant state of motion, but not with the usual sights and sounds of children singing and dancing. Ongoing restoration and repair since the Dick Bruhn building fire has been in full swing and the light at the end of the tunnel is growing brighter thanks to our wonderful supporters. The anticipated summer program is right around the corner and we couldn’t be more excited to welcome the community back into our beautiful theatre!
Registration is open for Disney’s 101 Dalmatians KIDS (ages 4-12) & The Jungle Book (ages 7-18). These summer camp programs are designed to encourage children to explore their gifts and talents while working together to create something amazing! Community members who are high school age and older will bring The Adventures of Tom Sawyerto life beginning June 25. No matter your age,ARIEL emphasizes the principles of Accountability, Respect, Integrity, Excellence, and Leadership, both on stage and off.
Whether you are performing or you are an audience member, ARIEL will take you on an exciting journey filled with characters that will make you laugh, sing, and maybe learn a little something along the way.
Everyone at ARIEL sends a sincere and heartfelt thank you to all those who have stepped forward to help us on this difficult journey back from the fire. We’re almost there!
We hope this adjustment will allow many more children to explore the stage and expand their talent while learning Accountability, Respect, Integrity, Excellence, and Leadership. Now there are one hundred more reasons to love ARIEL! See you this summer!

As many know, on Saturday, February 13, 2016, ARIEL experienced the most terrifying moment at our home, The Karen Wilson Children’s Theatre. The Dick Bruhn building, adjacent to ours, was engulfed in a 5 alarm fire and threatened our very existence.
We are happy to say – we are still standing, operating and producing our shows. Although there is long road ahead of us due to issues caused by smoke and water presence in our building, we are moving forward with our 2016 season.
To say the least, we would not be here if not for the valiant and heroic efforts of the Salinas and surrounding Fire Departments. They went above and beyond to protect our home and everything inside. For nearly 7 hours, crews fought stray embers on the roof, doused the exterior structure walls to keep them cool and fire free, and physically moved things from our bottom floor to a safer and dry area on the main floor. We are forever grateful.
We would also like to extend our thanks to the Salinas community who have opened up their “homes” to provide us with off-site rehearsal and performance spaces. On the Monday following the fire, ARIEL was back in rehearsal for its upcoming production of The Little Red Hen and Pinocchio.
As Gail said in her interview with the Californian, “We have lost so little. “What we have is inconvenience. What we could have had was a disaster. We could have been looking at the ashes.”
Instead, we are looking forward to the future.
